Organ postludes in Lent will be passacaglias, also called chaconnes or grounds. Their regularly repeating bass melodies provide a perfect vehicle for meditation.

Click to go to a 2007 two-hour Public Radio programme of Pipedreams dealing with organ passacaglias with a commentrary by Michael Barone.

Organ passacaglias will also be the subject of a second programme on Pipedreams this coming week. Check back here.
